2021 Year-End Giving Update

4 Local Organizations Making a Difference in Our Community

Ruby + Citrine is fortunate to have the ability to give 3% of our annual profit to local charities that are making a difference in our communities.

This year our team decided to donate to four charitable organizations: Feeding America, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (Backpack Buddies), the Rape Crisis Center, and Read to Feed.

At Ruby + Citrine, we’re passionate about giving back to the communities we live in, and so it’s our privilege to support these staff-pick, non-profit organizations financially.

If you worked with Ruby + Citrine at any time through 2021, thank you for your support. Please know that you’re the reason we’re able to give.

Feeding America

As the largest hunger-relief organization in the U.S., Feeding America has over 200 food banks, including 7 food banks in North Carolina. Partnering with local food pantries and meal programs, Feeding America has helped provide 6.6 billion meals to tens of millions of people in 2021. The organization’s mission is to prevent food waste and improve food security among people living with food insecurity. Feeding America also actively advocates for legislation with the purpose of irradicating social and systemic causes of habitual hunger and malnutrition.

BackPack Buddies (Double Match!)

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, as a member of the Feeding America network, is on a mission to feed the community, teach self-sufficiency, grow healthy foods, and cultivate innovative approaches to end hunger.

The Food Shuttle serves seven counties in central North Carolina, the 10th hungriest state in the U.S. Through its BackPack Buddies program, this incredible non-profit provides meals every weekend to around 3,000 children who rely on school breakfast and lunch programs. It’s not just about providing a nutritious meal. In some circumstances, it’s about having a meal to eat at all.

And bonus – because we gave before the end of the year, they matched our contribution as a part of their Double Match program.

The Phoenix Center

Previously known as the Rape Crisis Center, The Phoenix Center exists to support victims of sexual assault by proving help to hundreds of people each year who need physical and emotional healing. With a mission to achieve zero tolerance for the crime of sexual violence and to reduce the effects of trauma on its victims, The Phoenix Center offers a 24-hour crisis hotline (910-485-7273), 24-hour emergency room responders, professional counseling, support groups, courtroom advocacy, and more.

Read and Feed

Established in 2007, Read and Feed was founded in Wake County by Jan Frantz. The Read and Feed mission is to strengthen literary skills among under-served elementary school children and provide meals in a nurturing neighborhood environment. If the children that attend the three mobile classrooms leave feeling confident in their ability to succeed, then the Read and Feed team feels their efforts have been successful, too. Today, the program serves more than 600 children annually with the help of more than 500 active volunteers who deliver essential food and tutoring services weekly.

Read and Feed is also offering a matching program, which doubled the amount we were able to contribute to the non-profit.
